Tma Endonuclease III acts both as a N-glycosylase and AP-lyase. Tma
Endonuclease III recognizes and through its N-glycosylase activity
removes oxidized pyrimidine bases from DNA, such as 5,6
dihydroxythymine and thymine glycol (2). The resulting abasic site is
then cleaved by the AP-lyase activity. The AP-lyase activity of Tma
endonuclease III cleaves the phosphodiester bond 3’ to an abasic site
leaving a 3’-α, β-unsaturated aldehyde and a 5’-phosphate.
